My take on the twirl skirt

One dream of mine is to design girl clothing. The junior college where I grew up had a fashion design program, which I would have loved to take. I checked our college here and unfortunately it doesn't have one, so I'm teaching myself as I go.

I love creating little girl clothes. I've got a sketch book full of ideas. If only I had the time to make them all come to life. Stacie and I have a couple patterns already out, but I get more ideas for clothing faster than I can complete the pattern.

One of the first clothing I learned to sew was a twirl skirt. I'm constently checking etsy or youcanmakethis for new designs. Unfortunatley, I'm seeing the same stuff being done over and over again. I decided I wanted to make a twirl skirt that I hadn't seen before. Something a little different. I knew I wanted it to have ruffles. I also wanted something that could be worn for play or to church, depending on what you wore with it.

I came up with this.

(I love how Sadie is sitting with her legs crossed and pointed toe!)

I started with a drop waist for the skirt. This allows for extra twirl factor instead of having the main skirt attached to the waist. I decided to have several ruffles going down the skirt for a fun, whimsical look.

I'm totally digging it! (Well, except that Sadie's skirt needs to be ironed a little better.)

I think I want to add an underlayer with tulle, to help it really puff! What do you think? Do you like it? If so, maybe one day I'll have the pattern done just for you!
